The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished 11 illegal floors of a 15-storey 'Deshabhiman' building at Siddharth Nagar, Goregaon, thus foiling another Campa Cola apartment like situation.

As per the civic officials, the builder had obtained permission to build only four floors but later added 11 more floors illegally. The P - South ward office had imposed a penalty of 11 crores to the developer to regularize the extra Floor Space Index (FSI) consumed by the building. The builder went to court against the order of the civic authorities. After the Supreme Court dismissed his petition, the civic body undertook the demolition drive on Tuesday.

The building which was constructed in 2012 was unoccupied. The civic officials have demolished the internal walls of the illegal floors. The authorities have said that they will be calling for tenders to demolish pillars and other structures of the illegal floors. They have also said that this job will have to be carried out cautiously ensuring that the legal floors are not affected. The BMC has appointed 150 labourers and supervisors to undertake the demolition work.
